Paradise Lost

This work explores the rich history of shipwrecks in Plymouth in relation to empire, slavery and indenture. It was made in collaboration with the Archaeological team 'SHIPS Project’ in Plymouth and supported by a commission from MIRROR at Plymouth College of Art. The installation has many parts-including moving image, still photography, and artefacts. This image is a still from recent filming for the project with the Kolkata based singer and archivist, Moushumi Bhowmik. This specially composed (and beautifully performed) song 'Ke jash re ei" translates from Bengali as 'In these Drowning Times'...a lament for our times perhaps. Exhibited at MIRROR in 2021, accompanied by a full colour catalogue. Paradise Lost at MIRROR
